Bringing Faith and Mental Health Into the Whole Health Picture

Why I founded NuWell
My Story Changed How I Understand Healing
For years, I helped people do meaningful work in counseling. Then my own health story showed me that emotional healing and physical health cannot always be separated.
I experienced persistent symptoms and unanswered questions that counseling insight alone could not explain. I knew the emotional and relational parts of my story mattered, but I also began to recognize that my body might be carrying information we had not yet considered.
Prayer became an important part of that search. I asked God for direction, and over time the right people, questions, and resources began to emerge. The answers did not come through one discipline or one expert. They came through connection, partnership, and a willingness to consider the whole story.
That journey became part of why I founded NuWell—and why the NuWell Method treats the client as the expert on their life while experienced practitioners bring expertise to the process.

“Here is my story. Now we want to hear yours—and help you explore how its different pieces may be connected.”
Mental-health-informed from the beginning
Your Emotional Health Belongs in the Whole Health Picture
Physical symptoms, stress physiology, trauma, relationships, sleep, meaning, and emotional well-being can influence one another. Steve helps NuWell’s practitioners keep those connections visible.
More Than Symptoms
Your lived experience, emotional patterns, relationships, and current stressors may add important context to physical concerns.
Support That Complements Counseling
Natural-health support can exist alongside the work you are doing in counseling and appropriate medical care—not compete with or replace it.
A Trauma-Informed Lens
Recommendations should respect your history, capacity, sense of safety, and real-life ability to make sustainable changes.
The goal is not to explain every physical concern as emotional—or every emotional concern as physical. It is to ask better questions about how the pieces may interact.
Faith-informed and welcoming
Faith Can Be Included Without Being Imposed
Faith was central to Steve’s own search for answers, and it continues to shape his understanding of hope, suffering, identity, relationships, and healing.
At NuWell, faith-informed care means there is room to discuss prayer, beliefs, spiritual concerns, values, and meaning when those matter to you. It also means your preferences and boundaries are respected.
No particular belief is required to receive thoughtful, personalized support.
A focused role within NuWell
How Steve Contributes to Your NuWell Experience
Steve’s primary NuWell role is to strengthen the integration of mental health and faith within the broader work of NuWell’s practitioners.
Keeping Emotional Context Visible
Steve helps practitioners consider mood, stress, trauma history, coping patterns, and emotional capacity within the larger health picture.
Recognizing Family and Relational Systems
Health changes happen within real relationships. Steve brings a family-systems and attachment-informed perspective to internal consultation.
Supporting Thoughtful Spiritual Integration
He helps NuWell remain direct about faith while respecting each client’s beliefs, preferences, questions, and comfort level.
Helping Disciplines Understand One Another
Steve supports shared language and consultation among practitioners so physical, emotional, relational, and spiritual concerns are not unnecessarily separated.
Important distinction: Steve serves as NuWell’s founder and mental health consultant. This page does not offer individual counseling with Steve through NuWell, and internal practitioner consultation does not create a therapist-client relationship.

Partnership around one health story
Steve’s Work Within the NuWell Method
The NuWell Method begins with a simple conviction: you are the expert on your life, and NuWell’s practitioners are experts in helping guide the process of exploration.
Steve helps protect that partnership and strengthen internal collaboration. When useful and with appropriate permission, practitioners can consult across disciplines while your primary practitioner remains connected to your goals and next steps.
More than 25 years of perspective
Experience That Strengthens Collaboration
Steve’s counseling and organizational leadership background helps NuWell consider the person behind the symptoms and the systems surrounding their life.
Professional background
Counseling Experience Supporting a Broader Method
Steve has worked in counseling since 1997 and has more than 25 years of experience supporting individuals and families while leading behavioral-health organizations. At NuWell, he applies that perspective to consultation, integration, and the continuing development of the NuWell Method.
Scope note: Steve’s work through NuWell centers on founder leadership, mental-health integration, and consultation with NuWell practitioners. It does not establish an individual counseling or therapist-client relationship. NuWell’s services do not replace appropriate medical care, counseling, or emergency services.
Questions are welcome
